Welcome to my Video Game Sound Design Demo Reel.
I have 5 Sound Design projects in my demo reel.

Project 01: Power-Up Sound Asset
Overview: Project 01 focuses on creating a Power-Up sound asset. The goal is to design an engaging and memorable sound that signifies a player receiving a power-up in a game. This project involves recording, editing, and processing various audio sources to create a dynamic and exciting effect. Key techniques include using pitch changes, layering, and creating seamless loops.
Key Sound Design Skills:
-
Recording with Zoom H5
-
Noise Reduction
-
Pitch Changes via Playback Speed Manipulation and Samplers
-
Layering
-
Seamless Loop Creation
-
Normalizing Levels
-

Project 02: Push Button and Lever Switch
Overview: Project 02 is dedicated to creating sound assets for a push button and lever switch. The sound should provide clear feedback to the player, indicating the successful activation of these controls. This involves recording mechanical sounds and possibly enhancing them with synthetic elements to ensure they fit seamlessly within the game’s environment.
Key Sound Design Skills:
-
Capturing and editing mechanical sounds
-
Layering and processing for clarity and impact
-
Ensuring the sounds are distinct and easily recognizable
-

Project 03: Cockpit Ambience
Overview: Project 03 involves designing an environmental loop for the interior of a spaceship cockpit. The goal is to create an immersive soundscape that represents the ambient sounds within the spaceship as it travels to an unknown destination. This project emphasizes the creation of a seamless, non-musical loop that includes various recorded and processed sounds to simulate a spaceship environment.
Key Sound Design Skills:
-
Recording and transforming mundane sounds
-
Creating seamless loops using crossfade techniques
-
Layering multiple sound sources to build a complex ambient texture
-
Normalizing assets using RMS levels for consistent volume
-

Project 04: Black Hole Effect
Overview: Project 04 requires the creation of three distinct looping sound assets representing a Black Hole effect. These assets include the pulsating sound of the Black Hole, the spiraling ring of dust orbiting it, and particles being radiated out (Hawking Radiation). The sounds should be delivered in mono and designed to be heard from the center of the game screen, enhancing the player’s immersion in the game’s environment.
Key Sound Design Skills:
-
Synthesizing and processing audio for specific effects
-
Creating dynamic and evolving loops
-
Ensuring the assets fit within the game’s auditory space
-
Using various synthesis techniques and modulation effects
-

Project 05: Weapon Projectile
Overview: Project 05 is about designing the sound of a weapon projectile being fired from a small blue orb. The asset needs to convey both the explosive force of the projectile being fired (transient) and the sound of it traveling (tail). Three versions of this asset are required: one using recordings from a Zoom H5, another using synthesizers, and a third combining both sources.
Key Sound Design Skills:
-
Recording and editing transient and tail components
-
Synthesizing unique sounds for projectile effects
-
Combining and layering recorded and synthesized sounds
-
Normalizing to ensure consistent playback levels
-

Overall Game Level Concepts
This is a school project with the task of designing audio assets for various game levels. These include:
-
Power-ups that enhance the player’s abilities
-
Interactive elements like buttons and levers that players engage with
-
Immersive environments, such as a spaceship cockpit
-
Dynamic and complex game objects like a Black Hole
-
Exciting and impactful sound effects for weapon projectiles
Each project contributes to creating a cohesive and engaging auditory experience, enhancing gameplay and player immersion through carefully crafted sound design.
